Two things you must visit in San Francisco

San Francisco is considered the leading financial and cultural center of Northern California. Its population reaches the number of 7.6 million people regarding the metropolitan area formed by San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland. Founded on June 29, 1776, by spanish colonists who established a fort at the Golden Gate and a mission named St. Francis of Assisi a few miles away. However, the city suffered a devastating earthquake and fire in 1906 that destroyed three-quarters of the infrastructure. San Francisco was quickly rebuilt.

The first stop is Alcatraz, most commonly known as "The Rock". Alcatraz was a federal prison from 1933 until 1963 design to hold prisoners who continuously caused trouble at other federal prisons. Most of the inmates were notorious bank robbers, murderers or sodomites. Today, the island's facilities are managed by the National Park Service as part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, and it is open to tours. You can reach the island by ferry from Pier 33, near Fisherman's Wharf. Alcatraz Cruises is the official ferry provider to and from the island. For $28.00 you will live a thrilling experience.

Following the visit to "The Rock" is the outstanding sightseeing of the gigantic Golden Gate Bridge. Construction began on january 5, 1933, and was finished by April 1937, costing more than $35 million. The total length of the bridge, including approaches from abutment to abutment is 2.737km. It is very popular with pedestrians and cyclists. It was built with walkways on either side of the six vehicle traffic lanes. The following view allows us to capture the essence of the vast dimensions of this bridge with San Francisco's downtown included.

I strongly recommend anybody to spend a couple of days and visit this great city. The diversity and cultural influence can be sensed in every corner. I will definitely define this city as "Breathtaking".
